With November being Lung Cancer Awareness Month, most people aren’t aware that radon gas is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer. Matter of fact, most people don’t even know what radon gas is and how it can be a silent killer. It is the cause of 21,000 deaths each year in the United States.
Radon gas can get into your lungs at home, school or your workplace. So, what is radon gas and how does it affect you?
Radon gas is a silent killer that is emitted from uranium through the ground. Traces of uranium are almost everywhere on this earth. As radon gas seeps through the ground, it is released into the air. Where it becomes a problem is when it seeps into your homes, schools and places of employment - any building for that matter. That is why it is important to have your home tested. Testing for radon is very easy to do.
If high levels of radon are detected, it is important to have a Radon Mitigation system installed. What a mitigation system does is that it captures the radon before it enters your home and directs it through a piping system and releases it outside into the air.
